My post on Sunday about pesticides in our food got me to thinking….now that the weather is warmer, my family is going out for more walks – which is great for our health! Being outdoors makes everyone feel great and can warm any foul mood. Plus the sunshine and fresh air are good for our bodies and souls!
….but beware of the grass! What I find most disturbing, is that despite being “out” in the “great outdoors” I have to be oh-so-careful of where I step and more importantly where my son steps! There are so many of our neighbors (and many of your neighbors I’m sure too) who spray pesticides or weed killers on their lawns. The lawns that are “professionally treated” have neat little “danger, keep off” flags placed on them – so at least we know to avoid those lawns (even though we have already stepped through much of it before we see the sign). But what about all of the other do-it-yourself’ers??
And how do you tell a 4 year old not to touch any of the grass while we are out “enjoying” nature?
And it makes me wonder, what do the parks and “common areas” of neighborhoods apply to their lawns. I am doing my best to avoid foods tainted with pesticides, now how to I avoid the grassy areas?? What do you do to keep your kids safe?

I’ve worried about the same things. At this point my son (who is 2.5 yrs old) spends much more time in our yard, the chemical-free yards of friends, and playgrounds (no chemicals), so on the occasions he is out in grass I try not to freak out. I trust that minimal exposure won’t be detrimental.
By the way, thank you for stopping by my site and commenting on the Breastfeeding/Bathrooms post – you are welcome to quote part of it and link back to me, I would be honored! Thank you.
