Interview With A Six-Year Old

I was originally inspired by Mommy Melee’s blog and her interview’s with her children. So I decided to conduct a similar interview with my son. My first one was last year – when he was 4.5 years old. Feel free to interview your own children – the answers you get may surprise you and I’m sure they will give you a good chuckle!

What is something I always say to you?

“I love you?”

What makes me happy?

“Giving you hugs and kisses”

What makes me sad?

“Me not being a good listener”

How do I make you laugh?

“By telling me jokes”

What do you think I was like as a child?

“A little girl with pony tails”

Why pony tails?

“Because little girls usually have pony tails!”

How old am I?

“40?”

How tall am I?

{holding his hands up to show about 5 inches} “I don’t know.”

What is my favorite thing to do?

“Play with me”

What do I do when you’re not around?

“You work”

If I become famous, what will it be for?

“Winning a boat parade”

What am I really good at?

“Working” {laughing}

What am I not really good at?

“Playing!”

Really?

“Tricked you!”

“Sleeping in a teeny tent! Do you think you’d be good at sleeping in this tent?”
{points to small kids-sized tent in our living room}

What is my job?

“Clothes”

What is my favorite food?

“Peanut Butter Eggs!”

“That’s my favorite food…peanut butter scrambled eggs is my favorite food!”

Have you ever had peanut butter scrambled eggs?

“No — YES! When nobody was around. I put peanut butter in scrambled eggs and I went ‘YUM!'”

What makes you proud of me?

“ummm….you giving me hugs and kisses!”

“And you giving me 100 green chips!”
(This one deserves some explanation…we have a reward system where our son can earn rewards by doing things like getting dressed, having a good day at school, picking up his toys, etc – he earns 1 red chip for each good deed and then can trade in 5 red chips for a blue chip, 5 blue chips for a green chip and 1 green chip gets him a prize or he can save up 2 green chips and get a better prize – he has never gotten 100 green chips!)

What makes me proud of you?

“Me being a good listener”

What do you and I do together?

“Play”

How do we play?

“We play, that’s how we play!”

How are we the same?

“We’re not the same all the way because you and me don’t have the same eyes….we don’t have the same eyes – your eyes are light and mine are dark”

But how are we the same?

“We are not the same!”

In any ways?

“Yes, but I don’t know what the ways are that we are the same…we have the same feet because your feet are small like mine”
{as he lines his foot up next to mine to compare them}

How are you and I different?

“We have different eyes”

How do you know that I love you?

“Because you always say ‘I love you’”

What is one thing you wish you could change about me?

“Your eyes to make them dark brown”

Why?

“Because I want you to be the same as me!”

What do you wish you could go and do with me?

“Go play with you”

What is my favorite thing to do?

“Work!….and play with me”

What is your favorite thing to do?

“Play with you…and right now I am watching Daddy”

Is there anything else you would like to add to our interview?

“No I do not”

“No I don’t want to add anything else”
{he repeated himself because I wrote down what he said}

  • Wow! Great post! This is my first time to read a mom interviewing her child. As most other people say, children give the honest answer and no pretensions at all and most likely you will be surprised with their answers. I am inspired to do it. :-)
