Breastfeeding Lowers Heart Risks For Mother

I love it when I see actual scientific studies that look at the benefits of breastfeeding! I have a Ph.D. in Genetics, so my scientific brain is always hungry for real research. Well, just this past week, Dr. Eleanor Bimla Schwartz, a professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences, published an article in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology on the benefits that mom gets when she breastfeeds. The link provided here goes to Google’s coverage of this article. If you are like me and you want to read the nitty gritty research – then you can access the full journal article here.

In summary this research shows that the longer a mother breastfeeds her baby, the better it is for both mother and baby. In fact, women who breastfed for more than a year had their cardiovascular risk reduced by 10 percent!! To read more about Google’s coverage of this article, please click here.
