Breast Pumping Tip to get More Milk

Breast PumpingI was always trying to get more milk when I was pumping, so I have compiled a list of tips which will help with that. The best tip that I have for getting a 2nd let down while pumping is to:

Pump for 10-15 minutes, then turn your pump off for 2-3 minutes, then pump again for another 5-6 minutes.

This ALWAYS gave me a 2nd let down. Everyone that I have ever given this tip to confirms that this works for them too. Try it!

Wow, that is a great article. I’ve never seen so many tips all in one place. I will be referring friends to this when needed! Wish I could have read something like this back when I had to pump all the time.
    Thanks!

Ooo! Love this tip! I will certainly be trying this to increase my milk supply.

Also wanted to rave about the hands free pumping bra. It is so liberating to have free hands while pumping! I can’t believe I pumped for a year with my first child without this bra.

  • I have not tried out this tip yet but I will have to pump tomorrow while I am away from home so I will try it. I did recommend this to someone on a message board that I am on when she was having pumping issues and she did say that it helped.

  • Definitely a good tip – I’ve never tried this but I’m going to if I need to pump again! Great list, too!

  • I know everyone raves about hands-free devices, but I am not allowed to pump at my desk. I work in a sea of cubicles, and a lot of people can (and do) look over the walls. I wish that I could email (or at least tweet!) while I’m pumping. I use the cheap, hillbilly/redneck way of making my own hands-free device with rubberbands or cutting holes in a sports bra. I have a huge list of tips on my blog as well!

Thanks for your comment Joanna and the link to your blog. Have you tried pumping in you cubicle with a nursing cover on? Even if someone peeks over the wall, they won’t be able to see anything. I have a lot of clients who do this. — Judy

I’m going to be a new mom soon and it really helps to read inspiring stories like these. I plan to be a stay-at-home mom so I can be with my baby. One fear I often have in mind is what if I don’t get enough milk? It scares me to death knowing that I’ll have to feed my baby with formula instead of breastmilk. I want to be prepared when our baby comes out so I’ve been reading a lot about breastfeeding guides. Your advices are really helpful and I know I’ll be coming back time after time to get helpful tips and infos on breastfeeding and on being a mother.
