Most lactation consultants recommend that you begin each feeding on the opposite breast that you began the last feeding on. Why? Well – for a variety of reasons, but most importantly, to keep your supply regulated. Your baby nurses stronger and harder when first put on your breast. So the first side, gets “a better workout” than the 2nd side. So if you started on the right for your first feeding, you’ll want to start on the left for your 2nd and so on. This way, each breast gets the strong, early stimulation from your baby’s nursing.
This will keep your supply equal in each breast and it will help you to avoid or minimize your chances of clogged ducts and mastitis.
As a new mom, we have all experienced some degree of “mommy brain” and forgetfulness – and when it comes to remembering which side you nursed on last, it can often be more difficult than one might imagine!
This is where today’s Blogiversary Celebration comes into play. Straplettes is a great invention! Made by mom and business owner, Lisa Saenz, Straplettes are cute little nursing reminders that attach right up to your bra strap. They have adorable ribbons, even cuter charms and are a special little reminder of which side you nursed on last – so that you don’t forget which side to start on next time! Because they are so beautiful, straplettes can easily be placed into your baby’s keepsake box when your nursing days are over too. Straplettes come in three different varieties – the Simply POSH Collection – which is – well…POSH, the Simply Sweet Collection – which has very sweet designs and the Simply Adorable Collection – which is – well…ADORABLE – how else would you describe a nursing reminder with a photo of your own baby on it!
As a part of our Blogiversary Celebration, Lisa has offered to give away THREE of her fantastic Straplettes to three lucky Mommy News & Views readers!

I normally just feel which side feels heavier and start on that side! But I usually can’t tell a difference so then I just guess.

My current method to figure out which side i nursed on last is to poke all around on my breasts with my fingers. Whichever one feels harder has probably gone longer. Clearly, a straplette would be an improvement on my current method.
My poor memory is what I use to remember right now. Some days I do great. Other days it is a wash!

I would always turn my baby’s head facing whichever side she’d just eaten on…if she ate on the left side, when I’d put her back in bed, her head would be facing the left side of the bed. Usually worked well, unless my husband would get her out or put her in bed, messing up my schedule! :
To be honest, I just try to remember which side my son nursed from most recently. Yes, not the best method, hahaha. But a Straplette would be a wonderful way to keep me from forgetting!

Genius! and super cute also! My mom suggested the safety pin methid but I hated stabbing all my clothes and kept forgetting to take them off at the end of the day. I tried writing it down but in the middle of the night, was just to tired. Now I use the scientific method of squeezing each side to feel which one is fuller.
These are adorable and would make it so much easier. You can easily switch it when you are done.

I keep a daily log, but sometimes I get busy and forget to note it!! Lately I have been leaving the boppy on the floor of the side I finished. This would be an easy way to keep track either in or out of the house!!
I use the same method as every one else who commented, Squeze around to find the fuller one. Last night I got fed up trying to figure out which one and spent several hours looking into way to remember and so far these are my favorite way since they are so easy!

To remember which side I need to start on I have a beaded braclet made by my midwife and her daughter. My midwives sister suffered from breast cancer and she wanted to raise support by making and selling the braclets. Mine says GOT MILK!!
