Welcome back to our Blogiversary Celebration!! Today’s featured item is from Expressiva Nursingwear. We have carried Expressiva in our boutique since we first opened. I love their items because they have super cute designs at very affordable prices. I wore their clothing when I was nursing my son. My favorite top was the Classy One-Piece Twinset – I had it in 3/4 length sleeves, long sleeves and short sleeves! This item is no longer being made by Expressiva, but I still have a few left in my boutique!
My other favorite item from Expressiva is the Velvet Holiday Nursing Dress – where else can you purchase a really nice, velvet dress for the holidays for only $56? It is a gorgeous dress and it has easy pull-aside nursing access – making it a new moms best choice for the upcoming holiday season.
I have saved my absolute favorite item for last since it is the item that Expressiva has generously offered to give-away to one lucky Mommy News & Views reader. It is the “I Make Milk” Retro Tee in Long Sleeves. This is our best-selling breastfeeding advocacy tee for moms! The saying on the front of the shirt says “I Make Milk, What’s Your Superpower?” and it is a great way for moms to show how proud they are to breastfeed their babies. In addition, it has an all-around double layer, which not only gives warmth in the cold winter months, but also enables you to breastfeeding your baby without baring your belly! I still remember when I got my first few Expressiva tops. I had been “making do” with regular loose-fitting tops for nursing, and I hated how I had to bare my (still flabby) belly to nurse. Plus trying to cover up with a blanket while supporting a newborn with two hands – well, I needed 3 or 4 hands! With a supply of good nursing tops and a well-made nursing cover, I suddenly felt like I could nurse anywhere. And I did! It was like being unchained from the house.
What an awesome shirt!! I remember… When my son was getting a hair cut in Cartoon Cuts in the mall. And I was sitting in the chair next to him. My daughter was almost turning 2. Well, she wanted to nurse. So, I turned her on her side and grabbed my recieving blanket and let her go to town.. There was a group of older women waiting to get hair cuts for either their grandchildren or children I am not sure, but you could visibly tell that my nursing my TODDLER Made them totally uncomfotable. The stares where like daggers.. The whole 3 years ive nursed including the year I nursed my son I had never had these looks before.. It made me really nervous.. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, and what If the hair cut store owner made me leave??? My son was in the middle of his hair cut!!!! But, I kept nursing.. I then pulled out my cell and text a few friends for support… They told me… Keep nursing Honey, its your right!! The women where coming closer to me at this point.. And I got really nervous… As I have never had a confrontation over nursing.. Finally after about 10 minutes one of the women came up to me and said…..” We saw you nursing your toddler from over there, and we wanted you to know how admirable we think that is, to be able to nurse an older child in public like this and not be ashamed.. They also wanted to know how old my daughter was. And I told them almost 2. They said they has wished there daughter was there so she could see my confiedence.. They where trying to get her to be more comfortable nursing in public… I told them. It took time. And practice. But, now most of the time i don’t even realize im doing it!! Its natural.. Like it should be.. So, thats one of the many stories I have but that means the most to me! This is an awesome blog!!
I nurse in public all the time, I use to be intimidated by it thinking what would people think but not anymore. Does nursing in the car count? I got a funny one.. sort of!
My daughter was screaming at the top of her lungs (lets just say I didn’t get a child that loves the car) and we had to get where we were going, so instead of pulling over and taking the long time to nurse like she did I got in the back of the car, pulled my boob out and leaned over her seat to let her nurse. Lets just say a lot of people gave us some strange looks while driving by, then I realized our windows weren’t really tinted and those truck drivers were getting a peak. AHHHH! All you can do is laugh right, and it kept her happy and us sane!
I do have to share though that it’s really touching when you see a nursing mom and you support her. I have had lots of woman say “it’s wonderful to see you nursing in public” and I try to do the same. It’s encouragement because you get far to many mean looks than happy ones!
Love the shirt, hope I win!

My first experience with nursing in public was at the doctors office. My LO was getting fussy because we had waited so long and I knew he was hungry and of course, I was unprepared. No receiving blanket! Thankfully I had an 8×8 little taggie blanket! So I just pulled my top down, it was a v-neck shirt and he latched on and I used his little taggie blankie to cover the top of my breast. I was so nervous and afraid of what others might say but no one said anything. A lady even came in and sat next to us and was asking questions about my LO and I don’t even think she noticed I was nursing him, LOL!
Simple moment: I was on a plane, the second leg of a flight, with my 15 month old traveling in my lap, sitting in an aisle seat. I started nursing Lily upon takeoff, and the man in the window seat of our row quickly reached across the middle passenger, handing me his airline-issue blanket, still folded. Because I needed a cushion under Lily to feel truly comfortable, this is what it immediately appeared to be. “Oh, THANK you!” I exclaimed, and slipped it under her. It occurred to me just a few minutes later that he probably meant that we should cover up, but too bad for him, and too late! :^)

The first time I ever nursed in public I was at a wedding. My very best friend was getting married, and Snapdragon was only 11 days old. I was most certainly not going to leave him somewhere with the dreaded bottle, but I also wasn’t going to miss the wedding.
Well, right on cue with the bride’s entrance, he got fussy and hungry. Fortunately we had the day before figured out how to do the whole nursing in the pouch sling thing, so it was somewhat discrete… til i realized that the wedding party could see righty-tighty. lol.

NIP story – with DS1, DH was weird about NIP. He insisted we take a bottle of EBM the first time we took him out. DS refused to drink it. I ended up nursing him on a bench in the mall and no one even noticed, but DH kept trying to cover me up. I finally told him to cut it out that he was drawing more attention than I was.

I’ve nursed a lot in public. That’s one thing I really like about breastfeeding–the convenience. My favorite was probably nursing on top of a sand dune at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. My son was only 5 weeks old and was out for his first hike. He started screaming when we were only part way up the huge dune, so I settled in at the top and enjoyed the view while I nursed.
The weirdest nursing ever was probably the time I had a dentist appointment. My baby was really new and wasn’t on any sort of a schedule yet. I had him in his infant carrier, and had just settled down for my cleaning when he started frantic hunger screaming (he went from zero to starving instantly). The hygienist, however, was very accommodating and allowed me to nurse DURING my cleaning. It took some propping, but we made it work.

I was never much for nursing in public with my first son, but once my second came around I pretty much didn’t care anymore. There was one time we were on our way home from a 4 hour car trip and we had to pull over at a truck stop so that I could nurse and man did I get some weird looks from some of the truckers, I think next time I will remember to pack a cover up.
The first time ever breastfed my baby in public I was so worried somebody would see me that I made my husband hold a blanket up in front of me. I always smile when I see a girl doing that now (and I see that pretty often). She’ll be a confident public MDD (Milk Delivery Device) before she knows it. I haven’t used my husband as a tent in a very long time!

I’m getting more and more comfortable with nursing in public but only have done it a couple of times. One of the first times was at a state park and it was way to hot to try to nurse in a cramped car so we sat outside in a lawn chair and it was such an amazing experience. Listening to the birds, feeling the breeze, and nursing my daughter, it doesn’t get much better.

My favorite funny story to tell is when we took my daughter to my husband’s work when she was about 8 days old. She of course got hungry and someone was nice enough to let me use their office to nurse her and she stayed and kept me company so that was nice. I had those breast shells in and I couldn’t seem to grasp the concept that the one in the non nursing side filled up with milk while I was nursing on the other side. I finished up and proceeded to bend over to pick up the diaper bag and the milk that had accumulated in that side ran out the air holes in the top of the shell and down my face and in my hair. What a mess. I was still feeling so blah about myself and that certainly didn’t help.

The shirt looks great – wish I had known about it earlier, but I still want one!
I had been on a 3-hour car trip to visit family when my 4 month old could wait no longer to have some milk. We stopped at a grocery store and parked at the edge of the parking lot. I often nurse in the car but it was a beuatiful day so I decided to get out and sit under a tree. After a few minutes I noticed a woman in a car nearby holding a baby. She saw me and got out and sat under a nearby tree and also nursed her child. She told me she had never nursed anywhere but in the car before. It felt great to have inspired her to nurse in public!
I remember a time that I was breastfeeding my son at the mall. I was sitting with a friend(who I believe was also nursing her son at the same time) and we were eating french fries too. This family just stopped and staired at us. We just continued nursing on and eating our fries. Luckily haven’t had any peepers while NIP with my daughter(yet lol)

We were on vacation at a really fancy restaurant and I was wearing a tight sundress. I realized when we were there and the baby was hungry that I had no way to discreetly feed her. So I went out into the car and had to pull my dress halfway down in order to nurse. I felt completely exposed and a few customers walking through the parking lot got a little peak!

With my last two children I was living in Texas, which has a law that allows women to breastfeed anywhere the public has a right to be. Every time I breastfed in public, I always was prepared to tell someone my rights if they ever complained. Fortunately I never had to, but it was always a relief to know that the law was breastfeeding friendly if I ever needed it.
One of the first times I ever breastfed in public was when I was at a mall with my parents in Macy’s and there was nowehere to sit except in the lounge part of the bathroom (the nicer part.) I was sitting on a chair nursing, my mom sitting across from me and family of 3 girls walked in. ALL THREE looked me up and down with a stink eye as I nursed him. They didn’t say anything nor did I but they definitely accomplished making me feel uncomfortable!

With my oldest I didn’t nurse in public since she was my non-latcher and made me live with my pump. My other two have thankfully been latchers and I have no issue nursing in public. I love my nursing shirts but have few of them so another would be great for all of the nursing in public I do!

I remember stopping to breastfeed my son in an outlet mall… I had my trusty cover up and was ready for war to begin! My son hated being covered up and fought the entire time he had to be cut off from the greater world. I sat in the corner with him and got my stuff ready. Another Mom was there with a little boy closer to a year old and she was having the same problem. We both had a good laugh over our wriggling babies. It was so nice to see someone else having the same nursing problem I did!
