The Breastfed Toddler

As many of you know, I nursed my son for a very long time. We kind of just followed his cues – with a little nudging along the way. Some of my favorite nursing moments are of when he was a toddler. I was browsing the web this morning and came across this diagram from The Alpha Parent and thought it was worth sharing. Take a look:

How many of you have breastfed a child into toddlerhood? You can read my breastfeeding journey here, Share your stories by leaving a comment below.

This is FABULOUS. Thank YOU. I nursed all of my children well past toddlerhood. I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything in the world. As a LLL Leader and Lactation Consultant, I see dozens of moms a month that need a simple little truthful diagram such as this, to encourage them. The “pounding” of recrimination they face once their infants start to walk is awful. Thankfully modeling from myself and other successful breastfeeding mothers gets most of them through it. Thanks, this is the best one I’ve seen in years.
    Warmly, Gina

  • Thank you for sharing this summary about the benefits of breastfeeding Toddlers. I am in this critical transition where my toddler starts walking and indeed I wonder whether or not I should give up breastfeeding him. Thank you again. It helps toget all the facts.
